Healthcare

For too long, our healthcare system has focused on treating chronic illness instead of preventing it. That’s why we support the MAHA Commission as it works to uncover the root causes of chronic disease and address them directly. We are committed to protecting and strengthening Medicare and Medicaid by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse so these programs serve those who truly need them—our seniors and the most vulnerable—not able-bodied adults or illegal immigrants. By embracing innovative solutions, we can expand transparency, improve access, and drive down costs for all Americans. We stand with President Trump and Secretary Kennedy in their mission to Make America Healthy Again.

I will always fight to ensure these vital health care providers have the resources needed to continue serving Texans. Some of my work includes:

  • Cosponsored H.R.1613, Drug Price Transparency in Medicaid Act of 2023, which ends spread pricing in Medicaid programs, leading to low reimbursement rates for pharmacies, and lower health care costs artificially raised by PBMs.
  • Co-led the Personalized Care Act of 2023 (H.R.4803), which offers millions of Americans improved and expanded access to Health Savings Accounts to make Americans' health care more personal and more accessible.
  • Cosponsored H.R.3887, Children’s Hospital GME Support Reauthorization Act of 2023, which provides funds to train pediatric medical residents at 59 hospitals nationwide with protections to prevent funds from going to hospitals that provide transgender treatments or procedures to minors.
  • Cosponsored the Rural Health Care Access Act of 2019 (H.R.2990), which removes burdensome federal regulations that prevent rural hospitals from receiving some of the benefits that urban hospitals are privileged to.
  • Cosponsored the Protecting People from Surprise Medical Bills Act (H.R. 3502), which will protect patients from unfair and expensive medical bills.
  • Cosponsored the Protect Medical Innovation Act of 2019 (H.R.2207), which repeals the excise tax on the sale of medical devices.
  • Cosponsored the Patient Access to Higher Quality Health Care Act of 2019 (H.R.3062), which repeals limitations to allow Medicare participation for newly constructed or expanded physician-owned hospitals.
  • Urged the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to allocate relief funding towards rural health care facilities, which led to a $634 million CARES Act grant awarded to Texas facilities.
