WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), a second generation small business owner of more than 40 years, today introduced his first bill of a seven bill series to reform the United States tax code.

His proposal, titled Jumpstart America, is a business perspective on tax reform that seeks to increase cash flow rather than repeat historically failed attempts to adjust existing loopholes and deductions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to commend recovery efforts in Wimberley, Texas in the aftermath of recent flooding:

"In Wimberley, a town about 40 miles southwest of the Texas capital, water rushed over the banks of the Blanco River with enough force to rip houses off their foundations and carry cars like they were toys.

"Today, just a few weeks since the rains eased and the floodwaters subsided, Wimberley is making a comeback… it's open for business.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas) today spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to condemn the president's recent suggestion that there is "no strategy" to defeat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

"The leader of the free world told an international conference that the United States does not have a complete strategy to defeat an enemy he once called a JV squad," said Williams.

"That JV squad waves black flags while driving stolen military equipment down streets where Americans made the ultimate sacrifice.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-Texas), a member of the Financial Services Committee, spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to support an amendment that would prevent the U.S. Department of Justice from using appropriated funds to implement Operation Choke Point.

Operation Chokepoint, a program overseen by the Justice Department, subjectively categorizes certain businesses as high-risk, resulting in lender discrimination against legitimate and legal companies.

"We came close to declaring bankruptcy," said Williams, whose death tax liability was equal to a significant value of the business' worth. "That is money I could have given to my church, money I could have put into a business to create more jobs, create more taxpayers."

"Shortly after they (my parents) passed away the IRS was in my office," said Williams. "I had to consider declaring bankruptcy. It is double taxation…it's just wrong, and it's capital that could go into our economy to help create jobs. It's a job destroyer.
