113th Congress
Standing in front of a wall-to-wall rifle display, U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, told a small group of constituents and journalists Wednesday at McBride’s Guns that the Obama administration's effort to restrict gun access in response to recent mass shootings is “slogans over solutions.”

The House has agreed 285-144 to stave off potential federal default for at least three more months by suspending the government’s debt ceiling. Some 33 Republicans voted against party leadership in protest. But 199 Republicans voted for it, and with 86 Democrats joining them (111 Democrats opposed the bill), it sailed through. Roll call here.

If newly elected U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, has his way, the 113th Congress will trim the executive branch so severely that Presidend Barack Obama will be flying commercial.
The line got a laugh at a Friday morning meet-and-greet at the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, where the newly elected congressman for the 25th District told about 40 supporters that they’d be seeing a lot more of him during his first term.
The 113th session of the U.S. Congress convened in Washington, D.C. Thursday, January 3.
But by Monday, January 7, Williams was back in District 25, meeting with his constituents in town hall meetings.

House Speaker John Boehner officially swore in Johnson County’s new Congressman Roger Williams on Thursday on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Williams represents the newly redrawn Congressional District 25, which includes Johnson County. CD-17 U.S. Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan, formerly represented Johnson County. Redistricting, as required by population growth reflected in 2010 Census data, moved Johnson County from CD-17 to CD-25.
When a Member of Congress is given time to formally express an opinion or make a statement on an issue before the House, they are said to have the 'floor' of the House, and their views are referred to as a 'Floor Speech'.
How House Members are allotted time to speak, or sometimes observe silence, are adapted from rules of order originally written by Thomas Jefferson. The speeches and other proceedings of the House are published daily in the Congressional Record.
Editorials historically came about as a means to let the average person know the opinions of the editors and publishers of newspapers and magazines.
Eventually editors realized that added interest in their newspapers and magazines could be sparked by allowing readers to express their opinions on the page opposite the editorial, and the modern op-ed was invented. Today 'editorial' and 'op-ed' are often used interchangeably to refer to any written piece expressing an opinion on the issues of the day, whether in a magazine, a newspaper, or a website.
