WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) joined his colleagues in introducing the Protecting Life in Crisis Act (H.R. 6742) to prevent federal funds allocated in COVID-19 response legislation from being used for abortions or abortion coverage. The bill extends existing Hyde Amendment protections to any coronavirus health care provisions, and prevents federal tax credits from being used to cover post-employment health care premiums (COBRA) that include abortion coverage.

The funding, allocated in the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, is intended to cover expenses to expand testing, purchase PPE, train staff, administer tests, carry out laboratory services for tests and expand drive-thru testing sites.

AUSTIN, TX – Congressman Roger Williams (R-TX-25) today applauded the distribution of a $634,000,000 grant awarded to Texas by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding, made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will begin being directly deposited to 393 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH's), Rural Health Clinics (RHC's), and Community Health Centers statewide.
